New Zealand’s Litter Act 1979

So what does our Litter Act (below) mean to you?

Anywhere in New Zealand:

  • If you leave litter in a public or private area, then you are liable to a fine of up to $5000
  • If this litter may cause danger, physical injury or disease or infection (e.g. from human waste) to any other person then you can be imprisoned for up to one month or be fined up to $7500 .

Please: love and respect New Zealand: leave only footprints – take only photos
